Online Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?
May 2nd, 2026 by Gemma

Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to achieve closing table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest enthusiasts in the world. While competing in internet poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I accept that Gus is an excellent poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is broke, he has no reason to sit at the table with the min buy in.

Playing for the min takes almost all of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full amt.. I believe television can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The best players anywhere in the world could be players you have will not have heard of before. Gus can be found competing in net poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in big stakes omaha/8 and texas holdem. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in cash games?
