NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
February 26th, 2024 by Gemma

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn whatever he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the detrimental comments from others kill his goal of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

He began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated many of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable passion for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil knows he makes errors every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Although Phil has won some big tournaments, he likes winning money games on a regular basis.
