Ah, the steam. If a poker enthusiast states never to have stared faced down the barrel of a looming poker steam – they are either telling a lie or they haven’t been playing very long. This doesn’t imply of course that every poker player has been on tilt before, a few players have wonderful control and carry their losses as a hit and leave it at that. Bad losses are going to happen. It is an inevitable outcome of playing Texas Hold’em, or really any kind of poker.
Seeing as we are assumingly (most of us) playing poker for one reason – to acquire money, it would make sense that we will play accordingly to maximize profits. Now let’s say you are up one hundred dollars off of a 100 dollars deposit, and you suffer a gigantic hit in a NL game and your stack is at $120. You have burned eighty dollars in a round where you were sure to pick up $200two hundred dollars when you decided to go all-in on the flop and held a 10 – 1 advantage. And that guy! He banged you out on the river? – Well hold it right here. This is a quintessential choice for a brand-new bettor to begin tilting. They just blew too much $$$$ on one hand that they should have won and they’re pissed
