NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
April 15th, 2019 by Gemma

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover whatever he could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the negative comments from others kill his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

He started competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable love for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his success. He knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and always strives to improve.

Although Phil has won some big tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
